Sanwo-Olu also said that other regular services and vigils are to be put on hold.

The Governor said that churches and mosques must operate with a crowd capacity not more than 40% translating to not more than five hundred members per service, no matter how large the worship centres may be.

He warned that citizens above sixty-five years of age should stay away from worship centres.

He also noted that children have the ability to move about while in the midst of other worshippers and therefore advised that children below fifteen years, should be excused from service.

The government of Lagos State has warned that it may revert to full lockdown if there is no noticeable improvement in adherence to the public health guidelines for curbing the spread of the coronavirus pandemic in the state.
The government noted that in the first week of easing the lockdown, there had been a recurring flagrant disregard for the earlier announced health guidelines, something that could frustrate the government’s efforts to contain the virus.

"As a government elected to uphold the security of its citizens, which includes health security, we will not hesitate to review the terms of #EasingTheLockdown if we do not see an improvement in the adherence to our public health guidelines over the next couple of days,” said Governor Sanwo-Olu in a Saturday evening tweet.

According to Sanwo-Olu, the state was at a critical point in the management of the virus, a situation which he said required the people to take responsibility for their safety and that of others around them, by strictly adhering to government directives.

He noted that low compliance on social distancing directives had been observed from operators of commercial buses, and commercial motorcycles, despite the ban on motorcycles.

Easing the lockdown is expected to  be in phases. The first phase began on Monday, May 4, with the number of confirmed cases in the state rising from 1,107 to 1, 764 as of  Saturday night May 9.
This recent development means that in six days Lagos State registered a 59.3% increase in the number of confirmed cases, the highest weekly increase ever recorded in the  state since
the discovery of the index case in February 2020.
A leading contestant for the October 10, 2020 governorship election in Ondo State, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), on Tuesday stormed the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, to obtain his nomination form ahead of the July 22 primary election of the party.

Jegede, a former attorney-general and commissioner for justice in the state, was accompanied to the Wadata House of the party by his supporters which included a House of Representatives member representing Akure South/Akure North Federal Constituency, Hon. Adedayo Omolafe and Member, House of Representatives representing Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency, Hon. Ikengboju Gboluga.

Others include a former Deputy Governor and former Ambassador and member, Board of Trustee of the party, Otunba Omolade Oluwateru and Hon. Benson Amuwa, former NDDC Commissioner in the state.

Also in his entourage were Hon. Bobby Omotosho, former member, House of Representatives from Owo/ Ose Federal Constituency, Hon. Debo Ologunagba , former member, House of Representatives from Akoko, other political heavyweights across the 18 local government areas of the state, former Commissioners, and Board members, among others.

Addressing Jegede and his entourage, the National Chairman of the party, Prince Uche Secondus, assured them of credible and transparent primary election come July 22.

Secondus , who was represented by the Deputy National Chairman, South, Hon. Yemi Akinwonmi, said "It is our responsibility to conduct integrity base primaries. It is not our duty here to preach any zoning . We want to assure you that we will not do anything that is not normal."

He added "the party is known for conducting free, fair and credible primary elections and that of Ondo state will also be free and fair because we have history of doing it right. We know you. You have done before and we are assuring that every process will be transparent. But observation is that since the Ondo people have been coming here for the form, I noticed they are all young men.The era of "old school" is gradually fading away."

Responding, the PDP aspirant, Jegede (SAN), said his coming to Wadata House for the collection of the form signifies the end to the APC government in the state.

Jegede said, "the forthcoming governorship election is the project of all the residents of the state, not an individual project. By the special grace of God, come October 10, 2020, PDP will be declared winner of the election.

"Also, come February 2021, we will be sworn in as the elected governor of the state on the platform of the PDP by God's grace. PDP is back and we are back for good. I am happy that you have assured that the party is known for transparency. We are ready to go into this and God willing, we are going to win the primary and go ahead to win the governorship election."

Jegede who is a successful senior lawyer with over 35 years experience in practice, was the candidate of the party in the 2016 governorship election in the state.

But he was not sure of flying the party’s flag until 48 hours to the election when the Appeal and Supreme courts dispensed with the suit brought before them by Mr. Jimoh Ibrahim and Senator Alimodu Sheriff.

Jegede came second in the poll despite his inability to campaign for vote in the said election, to the present governor of the state, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

He was the Attorney General and Justice Commissioner in Ondo State for seven and half years, the longest serving official in that capacity in the history of the state, a position he got purely based on merit rather than politics.
Nigeria's  Minister of Information,  Lai Mohammed

Nigeria's  Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said families of coronavirus victims could not be allowed to claim their remains for burial.

In a forum on Friday in Abuja, the minister said such corpses are properties of the Federal Government.

According to Mohammed, the corpses of persons who died from COVID-19 in the country would be handled by the Ministry of Health.

The minister said the government would be risking the lives of such families if it allowed them to handle the bodies of victims because they are contagious.

“Coronavirus is very dangerous and contagious; there is no medicine for it yet and it is not just capable of killing, overwhelming healthcare system, it will destroy the economy,” said Mohammed.

Explaining further, he said :

"In some countries, they are putting dead bodies in big refrigerators, because the morgues have filled up. Nigerians should not forget that these are not the type of corpses that can be claimed for burial because it must be handled by the ministry of health."

Mohammed commended Nigerians for complying with the 14-day lockdown declared in Lagos, Ogun and the FCT by President Muhammadu Buhari on Sunday, as well as those declared by various state governments.

He urged Nigerians to “stay safe, obey simple instructions of basic hygiene and social distancing,” adding that “in a few weeks, we will resume our normal life”.

Since the first confirmed case on February 27, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has so far registered 190 cases of Coronavirus in the country; with a record of two deaths. However, twenty-three persons treated for the contagious disease , have also been known to have recovered from the global pandemic.

Lagos State government on Thursday sealed off a mosque for violating the state government’s order on religious gathering.
The order was given to curb the spread of the Coronavirus pandemic.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had banned gathering of more than 20 persons in one of the preventive measures to curtail the spread of the deadly disease.
However, worshippers at Agege Central Mosque (Hausa Community), popularly called Moshalashi Alhaja, located at Balogun Street, on Tuesday flouted the order during the night Prayer (Ishai) and worshipped in hundreds.
Attempts by officials of the Lagos State COVID-19 Task Force, who arrived on the scene to enforce compliance, were resisted.
A drama ensued when some of the Muslim youths saw the team and attacked them. About 300 others in the mosque rushed out, chanting Allahu Akbar! and joined them in the attack by pelting the vehicles with stones.
The Taskforce team comprised Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency, Lagos Safety Commission and the Rapid Response Squad.
But on Thursday, the LASG sealed and fumigated the mosque.
Agege Local Government Chairman, Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi who was informed about the incident by the Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Islamic Matters, Alhaji Abdullahi Jebe, led the council officials to seal off the mosque after fumigating the place.
